Earning Airpoints Dollars

The more you travel, the more Airpoints Dollars™ you could earn and the greater your choice of Airpoints™ rewards.

In the air, you can earn Airpoints Dollars on Air New Zealand*, Star Alliance and our other airline partners. On the ground, you can earn Airpoints Dollars with our hotel, rental car and finance card partners.

Following are some handy tips for earning Airpoints Dollars.

Always Provide Your Airpoints Membership Number

  • When you book a flight with our airline partners or Air New Zealand - even on our Smart Saver fares (you may not earn Airpoints Dollars on these fares, but they will exempt you from the annual account fee), please ensure the name displayed on your booking matches your Airpoints account name.
  • When making a reservation with a hotel or rental car partner, and at check-in.

Missing Some Airpoints Dollars?

  • Keep your original boarding passes and tickets (or E-ticket receipts) or partner receipts in a safe place until your Airpoints Dollars appear on your online activity detail or posted statement.
  • If your Airpoints Dollars haven't appeared on your Airpoints account after eight weeks, you can Claim Missing Airpoints Dollars online by logging into 'My Account' and clicking on My Airpoints Account. Login or register online here. Alternatively, send the original documents to your local Contact Centre within 6 months of travel or purchase of other qualifying goods and services.

Viewing Your Account Information Online

  • You can now view your Airpoints account activity detail for the past year online by logging into 'My Account'. Login or register online here. Please note you will need your PAC number (Personal Access Code) to register.

Airpoints Dollars Expiry

  • Airpoints Dollars are valid for between 4 and 5 years. Each year, on your anniversary of joining Airpoints, all Airpoints Dollars earned more than four years earlier will expire.
  • Every time you use Airpoints Dollars, the oldest ones are used first, keeping the Airpoints Dollars due to expire to a minimum. Your online Account Summary lists when your Airpoints Dollars are due to expire. Login or register online here. Please note you will need your PAC number (Personal Access Code) to register.
  • Your Airpoints Dollars™ will not expire while you retain Gold Elite or Gold status. Should you move below Gold status, you will have until your next anniversary of joining to use any Airpoints Dollars that would otherwise expired. If your next anniversary falls within two months of you moving below Gold status you will have two months to utilise these Airpoints Dollars.
  • While you continue to be GlobalPlus Platinum Primary member you will not expire Airpoints Dollars.

*Please note: Airpoints members cannot earn Airpoints Dollars in conjunction with Domestic, Tasman and Pacific Island Smart Saver fares booked in L,G,S, K & P booking classes, Airpoints™ reward classes (X,I), travel industry (incl. duty travel) classes (N,R) and any fares booked in A class. Members of airline partner frequent flyer programmes are unable to earn points/miles in conjunction with fares booked in any of the classes noted above, regardless of route. Airpoints companion tickets are unable to be purchased in conjunction with fares booked in any of the classes noted above.
